Round 3 - hot enough for you?
A small field of 7 riders braved Melbourne's heat to race round 3
On a hot and windy day seven riders entered the 3rd round of the
Trek Summer Sprint Series. A smaller field than the organisers hoped
for, but quality racing all the same for those that did show up.
Big Jeremy Mclay was the outstanding rider of the day, winning every A grade race at a canter despite Mick Thomas and Adam King doing their best to surprise and escape from the big sprinter, who clocked a 12:35 flying 200 (58.3km/h) in a gusty northerly and never looked troubled in any rounds.
In B grade novice track sprinter Claire Stevens rode well to finish third, with big Nath Larkin ruing some tactical errors in early rounds that took a lot out of his legs early, flatting him for the finals, and Dino Apolito was cleverly wrong-footed by his arch-rival Rob Monteath, evening the score from round 1, with Rob just holding off Dino after a very long sprint in the final.
The chase for the Trek T1 frame is neck and neck, with Rob and Dino tied on 17 points each, but with Dino to miss round 4 due to work travel commitments and plenty of points on offer in the next 3 rounds, this series is far from decided.
