The Summer Sprint Series returns for 2011-2012.
This graded match sprint series runs at the Blackburn Cycling club
velodrome over 'summer' with a race meeting once a month on Sunday afternoons from October to March (except January). The series is open to licenced ACF (Cycling Australia) Senior (adult) riders and J19 juniors using UCI legal track bicycles only. Riders younger than J19 are not able to compete in this series unless invited.
The series is a graded match sprint series, if there are sufficient numbers of riders we run 3 or 4 grades on each day. Riders qualify at first with flying 200s and are then split into grades where there will be a round robin or partial round robin to determine the top four riders from each grade, who then race for the top three places.
Round 1 results are online, video is online.
Round 2 results are online, video is online.
Round 3 results are online, video uploading.
Entry fees are $10 per rider per day. One day licenses are not available. It is expected that each rider will have the opportunity to have three match sprints per day plus finals. You will not be eliminated in the first round. The aim of this series is for riders to gain experience and to get as much time racing as we can squeeze into an afternoon. All riders and spectators are welcome to the post-racing free BBQ.
Prizemoney is paid as a percentage of the entry fees collected on the day and riders also compete for a daily aggregate prizes (Jack-O sprint gloves and Bontrager Race-lite tyres) and gain points towards series aggregate prizes and the perpetual Trevor Watson Trophy, for the 2011-2012 series the major aggregate prize is an Josiah Ng/5bling 5 spoke rear wheel (RRP $1,500).
